Dr. Mark Merlin, a Louisiana native, was practicing at a large radiation and medical oncology group in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina uprooted his family to Atlanta. Dr. Merlin reached out to Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) because of its strong reputation in the treatment of cancer, and he has been practicing at RCOG’s Decatur location ever since.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Merlin elected to become a physician. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University and completed his residency at the Medical College of Georgia. “I decided to pursue radiation oncology because I had an interest in caring for patients with cancer and with the cutting-edge technology used in treatment,” Dr. Merlin said.
Dr. Merlin serves on several national committees for U.S. Oncology including the Radiation Oncology Leadership Council, the Clinical Advisory Council Radiation Subcommittee, the Quality Assurance & Accreditation Readiness Committee, and the Standardization Steering Committee. Dr. Merlin also functions as the Compliance liaison for his physician group (RCOG).
Dr. Merlin treats a variety of cancers such as breast, gastrointestinal, lung, skin, and others, and he specializes in a unique prostate cancer treatment - ProstRcision.
When not working at RCOG, Dr. Merlin enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, reading short stories, and watching stand-up comedy. He values being outdoors hiking, kayaking, playing tennis, and attending music festivals. He also volunteers in the community at the Atlanta Zoo and with the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.
